The Virgin London Marathon and running for Headway East Northants

We're thrilled to announce that all 27 running places we have for the Virgin London Marathon April 2019 are now FULL! Our runners are all doing a phenomenal job, not only with the hard work they're putting into their Marathon training, but also their fundraising efforts and various related events they're organising. We couldn't be prouder and are so grateful that these guys have chosen Headway East Northants to support!

In February, we'll be holding our annual 'Marathon Information Evening' at our Irthlingborough Centre, which all runners are invited to attend. It's a terrific opportunity for us to meet these amazing people in person, for runners to meet each other, and for people to take a closer look around our centre to see what we're all about. Our guest speaker this year is Mr Andrew Walker, an experienced marathon runner, who'll be sharing his knowledge and experiences with the rest of Team HEN. Andrew is on this year's team of runners, too!

If you're interested in running next year's Virgin London Marathon (2020) to help raise funds for Headway East Northants, then we'd love to hear from you.

Not only will you be fulfilling an incredible personal challenge, but you'll also be helping raise funds for our charity to empower and enrich the lives of our clients, as well as providing invaluable support and respite to their families.

The Virgin London Marathon is a truly special event, and from the moment a runner secures a place, we'll be there for them every step of the way, keeping in touch regularly to ensure that they are confident and well-supported.

The quotes below from our runners say it all, we think!

"I want to send huge thanks to everyone at Headway East Northants for the very special 'good luck' card. I felt quite emotional when reading it, and would love you to convey my thanks to everyone there. It will definitely help me with my last bits of training, and even more so on the day when I'll have time to reflect on waht I am doing, and why.  Thank you for your continued support, and to everyone at Headway for being so kind."

Suzie Watts, 2018 Marathon runner, who later described her experience with the Marathon as "life-changing".

"Thank you very much fo the Team UPN Certificate that arrived the other day! It is taking pride of place on my office wall! It was great to be involved in Team HEN, the best marathon build-up and experience yet!"

Andrew Spencer, UPN Director and Marathon runner

The story below shows you just how successful your Marathon fundraising can be! Claire is part of the 2019 'Team HEN' marathon runners.

Team HEN Marathon runner, Claire Broughton, smashes fundraising target with 'Casino Royale' night!

2019 Team HEN marathon runner, Claire Broughton, has already smashed her marathon fundraising target for us thanks to the huge success of her 'Casino Royale' theme night, held in November of 2018 along with her sister (who's also running for her own chosen charity!).

The evening included a raffle, auction and smaller casino-themed games including on-the-spot roulette spins, "Guess our Finishing Times" and "Who Can Roll the £1 Coin Closest to the Champagne Bottle?" - which we're told was highly addictive, with the closest "roller" winning the bottle!

The ladies' efforts were absolutely phenomenal, with £3,500 being raised between them for their respective charities. We very much look forward to meeting them at February's Information evening and thank them sincerely for their fantastic commitment!
