Karen Betts

I joined the board of trustees at Headway East Northants in January 2014 to make a difference, offering my experience of living with brain injury for over 5 years. If nothing else, these last 5 years have taught me that life is precious and that everyone, no matter what their disability, deserves to have a life.

My full-time job is safeguarding the vulnerable with the police, a job I find very rewarding in the 14 years of service.

Since living with brain injury, following my husband’s fall in 2009, I like to support  those who have also experienced brain injury, by sharing my knowledge and experience.

I have  written a book called “LOST”  which has been published and is available to purchase. It is about a journey that became life changing, a book I hope will help others feel they are not alone.

I have also been a member of  the support group meetings held at Oundle, offering guidance and support to both regular and new members of the group.

Another passion of mine is raising and promoting awareness of brain injury by trying to help with East Northants fundraising, donating raffle prizes, making them my chosen charity at work, and helping at events when I can.

Over the last year I have been studying Psychology and have just passed a level 3 qualification.

Amazing donation from Higgins!

We were thrilled to receive a huge quantity of wood Higgins Builders Merchants, which was kindly arranged as a donation from Thomas, who works there.

Woodwork is always such a popular activity here at our Centre, and our clients, together with the support of our volunteers, enjoy working together to create useful items.

With such a generous donation, there's no end to the items that can be created and we can't wait to see what comes out of our woodwork room, so a huge thank you to Higgins!

If there's anything that you may be interested in donating to us here at Headway, please do get in touch as we'd love to hear from you! Please email  rebecca.lake@headwayeastnorthants.org.uk
